But He was pierced for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on Him, and by His wounds we are healed. ~ Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

Choose Life

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations."

                                                             U.S. Abortion Facts

--    On January 22, 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court legalized abortion in the United States by their decisions made in the cases of Roe v. Wade and Doe v. Bolton. The court ruled that within the first three months of pregnancy, no one can interfere with a woman's right to abort her child.

--    Between 1973 and 2005 (the most recent year for which there is reliable data), more than 45 million legal abortions have occured in the United States.

--    Nearly half of all pregnancies among American women are unintended; about 4 in 10 of these are terminated by abortion.

--    22% of all U.S. pregnancies end in abortion.

--
At least 80% of all abortions are performed on unmarried women.

--    50% of American women receiving abortions are younger than 25... 33% are between the ages of 20-24, while 17% are teenagers.

--    47% of women who have abortions had at least one previous abortion.

--    88% of all abortions occur during the first trimester (3 months).

What does the Bible teach us about abortion?

The Bible declares that God values all human life and explains that the entire life of a human, from beginning to its natural end, is sacred. The Bible is also very clear that God was involved in our creation from the womb:

Did not He who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?
                                                                                                     Job 31:15 (NIV)

The Old Testament provides most of the information on God's view of life before birth, since it gives us the law. The law specifically addresses the issue of taking the life of a fetus in the book of Exodus:

"If men who are fighting hit a pregnant woman and she gives birth prematurely but there is no serious injury, the offender must be fined whatever the woman's husband demands and the court allows. But if there is serious injury, you are to take life for life."

                                                                                                                        Exodus 21:22-
23

Therefore, the law tells us that a man who recklessly induces an abortion or miscarriage is to be punished, indicating how much God values life before birth.

                                           Why do women choose abortion?

On average, women give these 3 main reasons for having an abortion:

1. Having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities.

2. I cannot afford a child.

3. I am just not ready to be a mom.

If you are pregnant, or someone you know is pregnant and considering abortion, please be aware of the devastating consequences. This poem was written by a woman some years after having an abortion:

 Forever in my Heart

I'll never get to meet you,
                            I'll never see your face,
I'll never know what could have been if you had a different fate.
I chose to end your life before it had even begun,
I wish I could go back in time and change what I have done.
Oh what I would give to look into your eyes,
To tell you that I love you and soothe you when you cry.
But I was young and selfish,
                            Let others in my head,
I let my friends convince me that my baby should be dead.
I knew that in my heart of hearts it wasn't what I wanted,
But still I chose to end your life before it even started.
I hope that if you're out there you can forgive me for what I did,
If I had the chance I'd end my life just so you could live.
The pain is neverending, it cuts me like a knife,
I'll never forget my biggest mistake,
                            I took my baby's life!
